From article to offer: turning expertise into a productised service

Articles that answer real questions attract the people who have them. A way to turn the questions readers keep asking into a fixed-scope service or a product they can buy.

Start from the questions

The best signal for a paid offer is a question people already ask you. Look at what readers search for to find your articles, what they email you about afterwards, and which guides they come back to. Each repeated question is a candidate.

From question to scope

A productised service fixes three things in advance: what is delivered, by when, and for how much.

  1. Name the outcome, not the activity. "A written report on what an agent can discover about your domain, with fixes" is clearer than "a consultation".
  2. Fix the scope. List what is included and what is not. A fixed scope is what makes a fixed price possible.
  3. Set a price you can defend. Base it on the time the work really takes and the value of the outcome to the buyer, not on a competitor's page.
  4. Write the intake. Decide what you need from the buyer before you start, and ask for it at checkout.

From service to product

Once you have delivered the same service several times, parts of it repeat. Those parts can become products: a checklist, a template pack, a guide, a small tool. Products sell without your time; services fund the work that makes them.

Connect the article to the offer

An article should still be useful on its own. End it with one clear next step that matches the reader's stage: a free check for someone exploring, a fixed-price service for someone ready, a product for someone who wants to do it themselves.

Be honest about it

Say what the offer does and does not include, state prices before checkout, and keep promises you can meet. Readers who feel sold to stop reading; readers who are helped come back and buy.
